POSITION AND REQUIREMENTS

Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Executive Director of Major Gifts will be responsible for the overall planning and implementation of a comprehensive major gift and stewardship program. This position will serve as the team leader for all major gift activity of the University.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
  • Personally manage a group of 125 major gift prospects.
  • Hire, train, direct, coach, evaluate, monitor and supervise the major gifts team.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive major gifts plan.
  • Cultivates major gift donors.
  • Develop strategies, programs, and proposals with development staff members, faculty, and deans for the attainment of six figure gifts.
  • Prepare written and oral presentations and proposals as needed and provide staff support to the University President, Vice President, and volunteer leadership engaged in major gift activities.
  • Document contacts and solicitation plans.
  • Travel as necessary to cultivate and solicit major gifts.
  • Plan, organize, staff and monitor the operation of the Research Office.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Research program to identify potential donors with giving capacity rated at $25,000 or higher.
  • Coordinating with the Major Gifts and gift accounting staff, develop and implement a full comprehensive stewardship plan.
  • Ensure gifts received by the University are used in accordance with the donor's intent, as initially agreed by the University.
  • With the Executive Director of Alumni and Parent Relations, plan and implement a series of group cultivation activities aimed at engaging in the life of the University alumni with the potential to make major gifts.
  • Develop and manage a cadre of volunteer Faculty members able to help identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit major gift donors.
  • Confer with appropriate administrative personnel to secure closure of the gift.
  • Develop and participate in a system of prospect identification and evaluation.
  • Attend all major University fundraising events and represents the University in a positive light to donors, prospects, and other constituent groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in development (preferably in a higher education setting) with demonstrated strengths in leadership, organization, and communication. Major gifts, capital campaign, and alumni organizational experiences are desirable. He/she must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be capable of interpreting the qualities and benefits of a Catholic and Lasallian education.

The Senior Development Officer for Major Gifts and Planned Giving reports to the Executive Director of Major Gifts for University Advancement and is primarily involved externally in the specific cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and planned giving. The Senior Development Officer will manage a portfolio of approximately 125 major gift prospects including planned giving prospects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Model the Lewis University Mission through dedicated job performance, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian Higher education.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure proper identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects capable of making gifts in the excess of $25,000, especially for the 125 prospects within his/her portfolio.
  • Identify and qualify individuals and organizations that have the potential to make major financial commitments to Lewis University.
  • Advise the Executive Director of Major Gifts on solicitation strategies and assist in the preparation for personal meetings and communications.
  • Plan, execute and evaluate appropriate cultivation and positioning initiatives.
  • Document contacts and solicitation plans.
  • Write compelling letters, proposals and other materials that will advance major gifts.
  • Involve volunteers, faculty, the President and others, as appropriate in the major gift process.
  • Be well informed about the University's needs and have the ability to match needs with potential donor interests.
  • Advise and assist the Executive Director of Major Gifts in planning, organizing, and operating capital and endowment campaigns.
  • Represent the University at events and constituent gatherings, as appropriate.
  • Manage appropriate gift acknowledgments and recommend ways to recognize donors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Major Gifts.

Qualifications include: : Bachelor's degree required, Master's Degree preferred, plus 3-5 years demonstrated successful fund-raising experience (preferably in a higher education setting). Capital Campaign experience helpful. Evidence of successful oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and the ability to work collaboratively, all essential. Computer competence is essential and knowledge of Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge is a plus. Candidate must be willing to travel and work some nights and weekends.

Vice President for Advancement
Culver-Stockton College

THE ORGANIZATION

Culver-Stockton College was founded in 1853 by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Culver-Stockton is the first co-educational college west of the Mississippi River, which it overlooks from a beautiful 145-acre campus set on "The Hill". POSITION AND REQUIREMENTS

The Vice President for Advancement reports directly to the President, is a member of the Cabinet, and is the principal liaison to the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Vice President for Advancement will oversee all fund-raising activities, manage alumni/ae relations, and lead a team of professionals focused on the Education Fund for Culver-Stockton, planned giving, and major gifts. The Vice President will provide vision, leadership, and energy to a successful annual giving program, but will also provide and implement strategies for a major initiative. Prior campaign experience is needed.

The successful candidate must have a significant history of leadership responsibilities in higher education fundraising or its equivalent. The Vice President should have a record of involvement and leadership in a comprehensive campaign, planned giving, major gifts, foundation and corporate relations, alumni/ae relations, and annual fund programs. The ability to think sensibly about donor communities and demonstrate team-building skills with professionals and volunteers will be essential. Demonstrated experience in budgeting, management, and initiating successful programs is helpful. Candidates need a bachelor's degree and preferably a master's degree (or a professional credential, such as the CFRE). The expectation is that the Vice President will have excellent communications skills, personal integrity, self-confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm for the mission of a residential liberal arts college in a historic river town with good access to St. Louis, Kansas City, and Chicago.

DIRECTOR of DEVELOPMENT
Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf

THE ORGANIZATION

Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Development. Founded in 2003, Blossom educates deaf and hard of hearing children, their hearing siblings and children of deaf adults (CODA), in an innovative and specialized academic environment using the Montessori curriculum. The founder, Julie Rutenberg, opened the school in Clearwater, Florida with the vision to provide students with the best education and prepare them for a lifetime of success. Blossom believes that every child can learn and implements an individualized course of study for each student. The curriculum is not only geared toward the students, but includes regular involvement with parents and family, making them part of the total learning process. Blossom currently has 26 students and a teaching staff of eight who are responsible for the growth and motivation of all students while educating them in English and American Sign Language. Blossom offers an exciting alternative to public and other private education for families with deaf or hard of hearing children.

POSITION AND REQUIREMENTS

The new Director of Development will be responsible for raising the philanthropic support from individuals, foundations, corporations, businesses and organizations to underwrite the programs, projects, scholarships and current operating cost for the School. S/He will represent the School within the community. The new Director will also oversee special event fundraising on an annual basis. The main emphasis of the development component is on relationship building and fundraising, and the Director of Development is responsible for overseeing all related activities.

    • Develop and implement a one page Annual Fund plan broken down by quarters. Include direct mail solicitations.
    • Produce a spreadsheet showing the annual development budget organized by potential sources.
    • Prepare and distribute a monthly report of gifts
    • Implement the thank-you process for Blossom School
    • Oversee the gift receipting and record keeping for the School
    • Work with the Associate Director to plan special event fundraising activities and oversee the implementation of those activities
    • Plan and produce the School's quarterly newsletter
    • Build the School's mailing list with individuals who believe in the mission of Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf
    • Attend School activities

    Qualifications include: B.A. degree in education, a minimum of 5 years of successful development experience (preferably in a non-profit institution) and strong oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of all Development operations including a wide range of experience in grantsmanship, corporate solicitation, prospect research, and the ability to identify, cultivate, close, and maintain major gifts. Must have demonstrated experience making successful larger individual and business gift solicitation calls. The ability to represent the mission of Blossom Montessori School, a strong balanced work ethic, the ability to think strategically, and a 'can do' attitude are also required.     RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Requirements: The Director of Development (major gifts) must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of an evangelical church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College's "Foundations for Christian Education" by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work. The new Director of Development must have the ability to articulate and support Geneva's mission statement.

    Candidates should have any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
